The Itinerant Preacher is one of the illustrations, in a diversity of media, that I created through 2020 for a series I titled The Year of the Plague. I posted them in Instagram accompanied by a quote from a writer that could express the way we collectively and me personally felt going through this once in a century disaster. Contradictory feelings of anxiety and hope, anguish and gratitude. The illustrations are in conversation with the quotes so that each complements the other. The Itinerant Preacher was inspired by a quote from Howard Jacobson and Paul Gauguin’s Yellow Christ.

I posted a total of 24 between spring summer and fall, together with a new short series (Transit) beginning sporadically in the summer where I was trying hard to hold on to a tenuous feeling of hope.

The postings, together with their original quotes can still be found in Instagram with the hashtag #yotp2020.
