La Casa Aboy presenta desde el 1 de agosto al 15 de setiembre de 2024, los trabajos en acrílico sobre lienzo y sobre papel de los hermanos Juan y José ‘Pepe’ Ibáñez Blondett. La sustanciosa muestra explora en retrospectiva una pluralidad de estilos, desde el colorido estilo abstracto figurativo de Juan hasta el detallista retratismo de José que evidencia su original inicio en el mundo del arte pictórico como serigrafista en el Taller Prisma, bajo la dirección de Eliasim Cruz. La selección promete ser una original calidoscópica inmersión en muchas dimensiones formales y cromáticas del arte pictórico actual.

El arte de Juan Ibáñez se ve fuertemente influenciado por su interés en las religiones y la tradición gráfica africana, tan importantes en los fundamentos de nuestra cultura puetorriqueña. Lo podemos ver en los temas que explora en sus trabajos, su uso del color y formas y hasta en los títulos de algunas de las obras que se mostrarán.

La obra de Pepe Ibáñez, mayormente paisajes, dan testimonio de su inquietud respecto a la situación de abuso de nuestro ambiente y las futuras repercusiones de las decisiones que se toman hoy día. Parece querer plasmar para un futuro las imágenes de un Puerto Rico que fácilmente podría desaparecer. Caso en cuestión son sus cuidadosas y amorosas reproducciones de los mangles, los cuales llama ‘la sala de parto’ de la fauna marina.

Es un escogido de piezas y estilos que, aunque diversos, comparten una misma ruta en la vena artística de ambos artistas. Es una afirmación del compromiso con nuestro país, su cultura y, por ende, el legado que dejaremos a los que vendrán cuando ya no estemos.

From August 1 to September 15, 2024, Casa Aboy presents the works in acrylic on canvas and on paper by the brothers Juan and José ‘Pepe’ Ibáñez Blondett. The substantial exhibition retrospectively explores a plurality of styles, from the colorful abstract figurative art of Juan to the detailed portraitism of José that makes evident his original beginning in the world of pictorial art as a screen printer at Taller Prisma, under the direction of Eliasim Cruz. The selection promises to be an original kaleidoscopic immersion in many formal and chromatic dimensions of current pictorial art.

Juan Ibáñez’s art is strongly influenced by his interest in African religions and its graphic tradition, so important in the foundations of our Puerto Rican culture. We can see it in the themes he explores in his work, his use of color and shapes and even in the titles of some of the works that will be shown.

The work of Pepe Ibáñez, mostly landscapes, bears witness to his concern regarding the situation of abuse of our environment and the future repercussions of the decisions made today. He seems aiming to capture for the future the images of a Puerto Rico that could easily disappear. Case in point are his careful and loving reproductions of mangroves, which he calls ‘the birthing room’ of marine fauna.

It is a selection of pieces and styles that, although diverse, share the same route in the artistic vein of both artists. It is an affirmation of the commitment to our country, its culture and, therefore, the legacy that we will leave to those who will come when we are no longer here.
